New Delhi, : – During the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Member Shri Niranjan Bishi raised an Unstarred Question regarding the establishment of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) in Odisha. Shri Bishi specifically inquired whether the Government plans to set up AAMs in the western region of Odisha, a predominantly Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) area, and sought clarification on the criteria used for selecting locations for these Mandirs.
In a written reply, Minister of Ayush Shri Prataprao Jadhav stated that public health is a State subject, and hence, the establishment of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, including in the western part of Odisha, falls under the jurisdiction of the respective State Government.
However, Minister Shri Jadhav further explained that under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme—National Ayush Mission (NAM)—there is a provision for the upgradation of existing Ayush Dispensaries and Sub-Health Centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
Additionally, Shri Jadhav Minister, informed the House that, based on proposals received from the Government of Odisha, 422 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Ayush) have been approved by the Ministry. According to information provided by the State Government, all 422 AAMs are currently functional across Odisha, of which 81 are located in the western region.
